How to transition your skin from Summer to Autumn
With the summer months coming to a close, it’s time to think about what your skin needs as the weather begins to change. Making sure you correctly adapt your skincare routine for seasonal changes is one of the best things you can do to keep your skin looking great all year round.
Know your skin type
The golden rule of any skincare routine is to know your skin type before you go and make any purchases. If you’re prone to dry skin and you’ve gone and bought a moisturiser and serum formulated for sensitive skin, your summer to autumn skincare transition is going to fall flat. If you’re unsure of your skin type why not book in with Dr Anna and her team for a tailored skincare routine.
Dry or normal skin? Use hydrating moisturisers
If you have skin that’s prone to dryness or your skin is classed as ‘normal’, opt for hydrating moisturisers to deal with the change in temperature and humidity level in the air. Hydrating moisturisers containing hyaluronic acid will rebalance the moisture and hydration levels in your skin and restore your skin’s lipid barrier.
A rich nourishing cream can protect skin from the elements, and if you have a dry skin type, we recommend layering an oil and a cream together for the most optimum hydration.
Keep your summer glow with a brightening serum
A vitamin C-based serum is a friend to your skin all year round, helping to keep that summer glow locked into your skin as the winter months arrive. Brightening serums such as ZO Skin health Brightalive will help to reverse the sun damage your skin may have sustained during the summer and prevent harsh conditions such as strong winds and low temperatures from affecting your complexion, keeping your skin lovely and bright.
Use SPF (even when it’s overcast!)
Even when it’s cloudy, UVB, UVA and infrared radiation are still up to 90% as harmful as when the sun is shining. A good sunscreen containing antioxidants Obagi Professional C Sunscare will help treat flakiness and dryness, both of which are common problems in the winter. By incorporating sunscreen into your skin routine each day, you will be protecting your skin cells from sun damage and protecting against photosensitivity and signs of premature ageing – remember, sun exposure is the leading cause of premature lines and wrinkles!
